Vinnies CEO Sleepout Founder Launches New Opportunity for Community Involvement
The founder of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, Bernie Fehon, is expanding his vision to include all members of the community in raising awareness and funds for people suffering from homelessness. After a successful CEO Sleepout that raised over $6 million in one night, Bernie is now launching the Vinnies Western Sydney Community Sleepout.
The new initiative has already garnered support from over 100 individuals and groups, including Deacon Tony Hoban and Mrs Annette Hoban of St Luke’s Catholic Faith Community in Marsden Park. Deacon Tony expressed his motivation for participating, stating, “I have decided to make a difference by getting involved in the Vinnies Community Sleepout to help prevent homelessness in Western Sydney.”
Susan Goldie, Executive Officer of Retail Strategy at St Vincent de Paul, will also be participating in the sleepout on August 30. She emphasized the direct impact Vinnies has on tackling homelessness through various services such as domestic violence refuges, hostels, and family services.
The event is sponsored by companies like Grace Removals and Rapid Relief Team, who will provide essential resources for the sleepout. Western Sydney University is also a sponsor and will host the event at their Parramatta South Campus.
Simon Barrie, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Western Sydney University, highlighted the university’s commitment to partnering with the community and students to address issues like homelessness. He emphasized the importance of education in growing the job population in Western Sydney.
The launch event at the Harris Park Community Hub featured a powerful testimony from a community member who overcame homelessness with the help of Vinnies. Anne Stanfield, Central Council President of the St Vincent de Paul Society, expressed gratitude for the community member’s story and emphasized the importance of coming together to support those in need.
Community members can get involved by hosting, volunteering, or donating to the Vinnies Community Sleepout. With the support of the community, Bernie Fehon hopes to make a lasting impact on the issue of homelessness in Western Sydney.
