Reflections on Retirement and Continued Ministry: A Priest’s Journey at 79

Father Patrick Toner, a beloved priest in the Diocese of Columbus, is preparing for retirement as he approaches his 79th birthday. With 47 years of priesthood under his belt, Father Toner reflects on his time serving the community and looks forward to the next chapter in his life.

Throughout his years of service, Father Toner has made a significant impact on the congregations of St. Aloysius, St. Agnes, and St. Mary Magdalene churches. From starting devotional programs to working with Food for the Poor, Father Toner has been dedicated to serving those in need and spreading the message of love and compassion.

As he prepares for retirement, Father Toner plans to continue his work with prison ministry at Franklin Medical Center and get more involved in outreach ministries for the poor and homeless. Despite his upcoming retirement, Father Toner’s heart remains in parish ministry, and he is determined to find ways to stay active and continue serving the community he loves.

Reflecting on his time as a priest, Father Toner highlights the moments that have brought him the most joy, including his work with Food for the Poor, his partnership with Father Brett Garland, and his dedication to prison ministry. As he looks towards the future, Father Toner plans to stay close to the west side of Columbus, where he considers home, and continue to be involved in the parishes that have become a part of his life.

Father Patrick Toner’s retirement marks the end of an era in the Diocese of Columbus, but his legacy of service and dedication will continue to inspire those he has touched throughout his years as a priest. As he embarks on this new chapter, Father Toner’s commitment to serving others remains unwavering, and his impact on the community will be felt for years to come.
