Pope Francis Approves Canonization of 11 Martyrs in Syria and Recognizes Miracles of Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Giuseppe Allamano

Pope Francis has approved the canonization of 11 martyrs in Syria, as well as the recognition of miracles attributed to Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Giuseppe Allamano. The news was announced by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, after meeting with the Pope on Thursday.

One of the most captivating stories is the miracle attributed to Blessed Carlo Acutis, a young layman who died at the age of 15 from leukemia. A woman from Costa Rica, Liliana, prayed at Blessed Carlo’s tomb in Assisi for her daughter Valeria, who had suffered a severe head injury after falling from her bicycle. Despite doctors giving her a low chance of survival, Valeria began to show signs of improvement after Liliana’s prayers and pilgrimage to Assisi. The miraculous healing has been attributed to Blessed Carlo’s intercession.

In addition to Blessed Carlo, Pope Francis also approved the canonization of Blessed Giuseppe Allamano, Marie-Léonie Paradis, and Elena Guerra. The decrees also recognized a miracle attributed to Blessed Giuseppe Allamano, who founded the Consolata Missionaries. The miracle involved the healing of an indigenous man in Cape Verde who survived a jaguar attack thanks to Blessed Allamano’s intercession.

Furthermore, the Pope recognized the martyrdom of a Polish priest and a Hungarian laywoman who were killed in hatred of the faith by communists. The heroic virtues of several other Servants of God were also acknowledged, including Guglielmo Gattiani, Ismaele Molinero Novillo, and Ismaele Molinero Novillo.

The approval of the canonization of Blessed Emanuele Ruiz and 7 Companions, as well as Francesco, Abdel Mooti, and Raffaele Massabki, who were killed in Damascus (Syria) in 1860, highlights the ongoing persecution of Christians in the region. The recognition of these martyrs serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have died for their faith.

Overall, the approval of these decrees by Pope Francis showcases the continued importance of recognizing and honoring the lives of those who have lived out their faith with courage and devotion. The stories of miracles, martyrdom, and heroic virtues serve as inspiration for Catholics around the world.
