Poland’s Church Seeks Beatification of Young Lay Missionary Helena Kmiec
The Church in Poland is seeking the beatification of a young lay missionary, Helena Kmiec, who was tragically stabbed to death in Bolivia in 2017. Despite her short life, Kmiec’s dedication to spreading the Gospel and serving others has inspired many.
Father Pawel Wróbel, the postulator in Kmiec’s sainthood cause, highlighted her passion for sharing her God-given talents and convictions with others. He emphasized that Kmiec’s life and example can serve as a source of inspiration for young people seeking their place in the Church.
Kmiec’s beatification process, initiated by the Polish bishops’ conference with Vatican approval, has garnered support from her friends and supporters. Testimonies and recollections are being submitted to showcase her heroic virtues and the impact she had on those around her.
While Kmiec’s death was a tragic event, Father Wróbel emphasized the importance of focusing on her life rather than her untimely passing. He noted that a miracle would be needed to confirm her sanctity, as per the Church’s requirements for beatification and canonization.
Marta Omieczynska, the director of the Helena Kmiec Foundation, praised Kmiec as an exceptional individual who continues to inspire others through her charitable work. The foundation, established to carry on Kmiec’s legacy, supports various educational and charity projects in Bolivia, Zambia, Tanzania, and Mexico.
Kmiec’s parents, Jan and Barbara, shared their pride in their daughter’s devotion to God and her willingness to help others. Despite concerns for her safety during her missionary work, they admired her unwavering faith and positive outlook on life.
Helena Kmiec’s story serves as a reminder of the impact one person can have on the world through their faith and dedication to serving others. As her beatification process unfolds, her memory continues to inspire individuals to live out their faith in meaningful ways.
