Celebrating the Grand Opening of the University of San Diego’s New Ministry Center
The University of San Diego’s new Ministry Center, located behind Founders Hall, opened its doors on Thursday to showcase its stunning features and potential as a hub for campus community engagement.
The center boasts a multi-purpose room, beautifully crafted wall tapestries by artist John Nava featuring 32 inspirational and international figures, and new office spaces for Mission and Ministry administrators and staff. The opening event filled attendees with pride and hope for the center’s future as a gathering place for students and other members of the university community.
Michael Lovette-Colyer, assistant vice president and director for University Ministry, expressed excitement for the various events and gatherings that will take place in the space. He emphasized the importance of community and connection at USD.
The completion of the year-long construction project was a joyous moment for Vice President of Mission and Ministry, Monsignor Daniel J. Dillabough, who highlighted the center’s significance as a place of compassionate care and spiritual growth.
The center’s stunning tapestries, depicting figures such as Pope Francis and Mahatma Gandhi, were a personal project for Dillabough, who sought out artist John Nava for the intricate artwork. Nava will continue to contribute to the center with additional tapestries in the coming year.
USD President James T. Harris praised Dillabough for his dedication to the project and credited him for bringing the vision to life. The Ministry Center stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to community building and spiritual enrichment.
As the center opens its doors to the campus community, there is a sense of anticipation for the future events and gatherings that will take place within its walls. The Ministry Center is poised to become a cornerstone of campus life at the University of San Diego.
