Renowned Activist and Editor Jeff Dietrich Speaks at USD in Conjunction with Dorothy Day Photo Exhibit
The University of San Diego recently welcomed Jeff Dietrich, a founding member of the Los Angeles Catholic Worker and longtime editor of The Catholic Agitator, to speak at the Frances G. Harpst Center for Catholic Thought and Culture. Dietrich’s talk was held in conjunction with the photography exhibit “Love is the Measure: Photos of Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker Movement” by Vivian Cherry, currently on display at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Fine Art Galleries on campus.
During his talk, Dietrich shared personal anecdotes and memories of Dorothy Day, the co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement, whom he had the privilege of meeting and interviewing. Dietrich spoke fondly of Day as a “consummate storyteller” and expressed his gratitude for her compassion for the poor and her dedication to social justice.
The event was part of a series of campus activities inspired by Day’s legacy, including discussions with her granddaughters and talks by other prominent figures in the Catholic Worker Movement. The exhibit will remain open to the public until December 14, with additional talks scheduled in the coming weeks.
Dietrich’s engaging storytelling and firsthand experiences with Dorothy Day provided attendees with a unique insight into the life and work of this influential activist. The event served as a reminder of the enduring impact of Day’s commitment to serving the marginalized and advocating for peace and justice.
