Carlo Acutis: The Catholic Church’s First Millennial Saint
Italian Teenager Carlo Acutis Set to Become Catholic Church’s First Millennial Saint
Carlo Acutis, a remarkable Italian teenager known as “God’s influencer,” is on the path to becoming the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint. Pope Francis has recently recognized a second miracle attributed to Acutis, a talented gamer and computer programmer who tragically passed away from leukemia at the young age of 15 in 2006.
During his short but impactful life, Acutis utilized his technological skills to spread awareness of the Catholic faith, even creating a website to document miracles. Born in London in 1991, Acutis later moved to Milan, Italy with his family. Despite his parents not being religious, Acutis’ faith was deeply influenced by his Polish nanny.
The latest miracle attributed to Acutis involves the reported healing of a girl from Costa Rica who suffered a head trauma after a bicycle accident in Florence, Italy. Her mother prayed for her daughter’s recovery at Acutis’ tomb in Assisi, where his body is now displayed in a shrine.
After being beatified and declared “blessed” following his first miracle in 2020, Acutis now awaits the final step of canonization as a saint. This process involves a meeting of cardinals convened by the Pope to agree on Acutis’ sainthood and set a date for the canonization.
Acutis’ story is particularly significant for the Catholic Church as it aims to better connect with younger generations in the digital age. Considered a millennial, Acutis was known to enjoy playing popular video games like Halo, Super Mario, and Pokémon.
The legacy of Carlo Acutis continues to inspire and touch the hearts of many, showcasing the power of faith and technology in spreading the message of love and miracles.
