Italian Teenager Set to Become First Millennial Saint at Astoria Church
The Vatican has announced that Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager who used his computer skills to spread the Catholic faith, is being considered for sainthood. Known as “God’s Influencer,” Acutis managed the website for his parish and created an online database of Eucharistic miracles before passing away from leukemia at the age of 15 in 2006.
Acutis was beatified in 2020 after a miracle was attributed to him, and Pope Francis recently attributed a second miracle to him, paving the way for his canonization. His body is on display in Assisi, Italy, where he is considered a patron of World Youth Day for his evangelization efforts through the internet.
In addition to Acutis, the pope also advanced sainthood causes for six men and a woman. The Vatican did not specify when Acutis would officially become a saint, but his story continues to inspire the millennial generation and beyond.
