Pope Francis Declares Year of St. Joseph: A Closer Look at the Life and Devotion to the Patriarch
In a move that has brought the faithful closer to the figure of St. Joseph, Pope Francis declared a Year of St. Joseph, set to end on December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This decision was made on the occasion of the sesquicentennial of the proclamation of St. Joseph as patron of the universal Church by Pope Pius IX in 1870.
The Roman Pontiff highlighted the different roles of St. Joseph in his Apostolic Letter Patris corde, describing him as a father in love, tenderness, obedience, welcome, creative courage, work, and shadows.
