Obituary for Donald Henry “Bud” Dobmeier
Beloved Olivia Resident Remembered for Faith, Family, and Community Involvement
The community of Olivia, MN is mourning the loss of a beloved resident, Donald Henry “Bud” Dobmeier, who passed away on October 19th, 2019 at the age of 88. Bud, as he was affectionately known, was a pillar of the community known for his unwavering faith, love for his family, and active involvement in various organizations.
Born on January 31st, 1931 on the family farm in rural Lake Lillian, Bud was the youngest of 11 children. After serving in the army during the Korean War and as a National Guardsman, Bud returned home to farm and marry his sweetheart, Mary Lou Kopel. The couple went on to have 13 children and Bud was known as a loving husband and devoted father.
Throughout his life, Bud remained dedicated to his faith and was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He was actively involved in the community, serving on various parish councils and committees, as well as being a member of organizations such as the VFW, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his community involvement, Bud was a hardworking farmer and a salesman for Keltgen Seed Company. He eventually retired and moved to Olivia with Mary Lou, where he found joy in various hobbies such as woodworking, gardening, and playing cards.
Bud is survived by his 13 children, 46 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous extended family members. He is remembered for his positive influence on the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 26th at St. Aloysius Church in Olivia, MN, with visitation prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Mayo Clinic Hospice, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, or an organization of your choice.
The legacy of Bud Dobmeier lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, as he will be remembered for his faith, family values, and dedication to his community.
