Pope Francis Attributes Second Miracle to Millennial, Paving the Way for Canonization

In a historic move this week, Pope Francis attributed a second miracle to Carlo Acutis, a millennial who passed away from cancer at the young age of 15 in 2006. Known as “God’s influencer,” Acutis used the internet to share his unwavering faith in God, and now, he is on the path to canonization, according to Vatican News.

Born in 1991, Acutis displayed remarkable religious devotion from a young age, despite his parents not being practicing Catholics. He would often ask his parents to visit churches they passed by, showcasing a natural predisposition for the sacred, as his mother shared with Corriere della Sera.

Acutis went on to create a website dedicated to his Catholic faith, where he documented miracles from around the world and used the internet as a tool for evangelization. He also assisted religious organizations in expanding their online presence, as reported by Reuters.

Tragically, Acutis was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away at the tender age of 15. His final words, “I die happy because I didn’t spend any minutes of my life in things God doesn’t love,” exemplified his deep faith and devotion.

Since his passing, Pope Francis has recognized two miraculous healings attributed to Acutis. The most recent miracle involved a woman from Costa Rica who prayed at Acutis’s tomb in Assisi, Italy, after her daughter suffered a severe head injury from a bicycle accident. The girl’s hemorrhage miraculously disappeared, leading to the attribution of the healing to Acutis.

With this second miracle, Acutis is now one step closer to sainthood, becoming the first millennial to reach this stage in the sainthood process. The Vatican has not yet announced when the canonization will take place, but the recognition of a second miracle is a significant milestone in Acutis’s journey to becoming a saint.

In a decree released by Pope Francis, a Consistory of Cardinals will convene to deliberate the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis, along with Blessed Giuseppe Allamano, Marie-Léonie Paradis, and Elena Guerra. Acutis’s story serves as an inspiration to many, showcasing the power of faith and the impact of a young individual’s unwavering devotion to God.
