Chinese Catholic Communities in Asia Show Generous Support for Relief Initiatives through 2024 “National Collection”
Chinese Catholic communities have once again shown their generosity and support for relief initiatives in emergency situations through their participation in the 2024 “National Collection” organized by Jinde Charites. The collection, which culminated on Palm Sunday, raised funds for areas affected by disasters and social emergencies.
According to data collected, the Beijing diocese raised around 169,286 yuan, with significant contributions also coming from provinces like Jiangsu, Shanxi, Guizhou, and Shandong. The Shanghai diocese alone collected approximately 530,000 yuan from parishes and nursing homes during the Mercy Sunday collection.
Bishop Joseph Shen Bin of Shanghai emphasized that the collection is a way for the Catholic community to show love for God through love for others. The funds raised will support various relief initiatives, including those following natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions in China, Taiwan, Guatemala, and Indonesia.
The Chinese Catholic communities have shown a willingness to donate and support those in need, thanks to the transparency in how the donations are used. This year’s collection once again highlights the compassion and generosity of the Catholic community in China towards those affected by emergencies.
