Family Endows Position in Memory of Former CatholicU Women’s Basketball Coach Jamie L. Roberts
The Roberts Family has made a generous donation to Catholic University in memory of former women’s basketball coach Jamie L. Roberts. The family has pledged $1 million to endow a women’s basketball assistant coaching position, the first of its kind at the University. The Jamie L. Roberts Endowed Assistant Coach Fund will honor the lasting impact Jamie Roberts made on the University’s athletics program.
Jamie Roberts joined the Cardinal community in 2011 as an assistant women’s basketball coach and also served as a valuable contributor on the University’s Athletics Communications staff. She helped lead three teams to back-to-back championships and was known for her dedication to community engagement and outreach.
Tragically, Roberts’ life was cut short in 2014 when she was struck by a car while participating in a cross-country bicycle ride to raise funds for young adults impacted by cancer. Her legacy, however, lives on through the generosity of the Roberts family.
The endowed assistant coaching position will focus on recruiting and developing young leaders, engaging with the community, and creating meaningful experiences for the team outside of basketball. The position will also continue Roberts’ work as a mentor by spearheading the team’s youth camps and clinics.
Former players of Jamie Roberts remember her as more than just a coach – she was a friend, a family member, and a source of inspiration. The donation from the Roberts family ensures that her spirit will continue to live on through the women’s basketball program at Catholic University.
This generous gift will enable Catholic Athletics to support student-athletes in the same caring and impactful way that Jamie Roberts did during her time at the University. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift the young women she coached, as well as the entire Cardinal community.
