Service Enterprise Certification Recognizes Catholic Charities for Increased Volunteer ROI and Impact

Catholic Charities Community Services in Arizona has been recognized for its outstanding volunteer management practices, receiving the prestigious Service Enterprise Initiative Certification. This certification, awarded by ASU Lodestar Center, ALIVE, and Points of Light, highlights the organization’s commitment to maximizing the impact of its volunteers and achieving operational efficiency.

With over 20 programs aimed at strengthening families, serving neighbors, welcoming refugees, and collaborating with the community, Catholic Charities has been making a difference in the lives of Arizonans for nearly a century. Last year alone, they assisted over 18,000 individuals on their journey to a better life.

The Service Enterprise Certification has enabled Catholic Charities to increase volunteerism by 23% annually, representing a significant ROI of approximately $63,000 in valued labor. In 2022, the organization engaged over 3,000 volunteers who contributed nearly 48,000 hours of labor valued at $1.4 million.

“We strive to be known and respected for excellence in volunteerism by valuing and recognizing volunteers as partners at all levels,” said Shannon Hill, Volunteer Services Manager at Catholic Charities. The organization’s dedication to integrating volunteers in meaningful and strategic ways has been recognized by ALIVE, with reviewer Tracy Lato-Smith commending their commitment to excellence.

Volunteers at Catholic Charities undergo thorough background checks and, in some cases, obtain a fingerprint clearance card before serving. Their contributions range from corporate and group activities to individual efforts like assembling hygiene kits. These volunteers play a crucial role in the organization’s ability to reach seven counties in Arizona and provide essential services to the most vulnerable members of the community.

“We look forward to increasing our engagement with our volunteers and showing them how valuable they are,” said Malissa Larson, Senior Director of Volunteer, Community, and Parish Engagement at Catholic Charities. The organization’s volunteers have been instrumental in their ability to serve those in need, especially during the challenges of the pandemic.

Catholic Charities, founded in 1933, continues to provide care for individuals of all faiths in central and northern Arizona. Through programs in foster care, early education, veteran services, refugee resettlement, and homeless outreach, they are dedicated to making a positive impact on the community.
