New President Elected for Konkani Speaking Community in Doha, Qatar

Aloysius D’Souza Elected as President of Konkani Speaking Community in Doha Qatar

In a recent media release, it was announced that Aloysius D’Souza has been unanimously elected as the new president of the Konkani Speaking Community (KSC) of Our Lady of Rosary Church in Doha, Qatar for the term 2022 to 2025. The announcement was made by Fr Nelson Lobo OFM Cap, the assistant parish priest and spiritual director of the Konkani Speaking Community, after the feast mass celebration of St Francis Xavier on December 3.

Along with Aloysius D’Souza, the newly formed KSC Managing Committee includes Rosario D’Cunha as vice-president and treasurer, Ms Jovita Pereira as general secretary, and Ms Meena Mascarenhas as cultural secretary.

Aloysius D’Souza, originally from the Kanajar parish and currently settled in Udupi, India, is known for his selfless community service in Doha for the past 12 years. He is actively involved in various organizations such as the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) affiliated Mangalore Cultural Organization (MCA) and other Karnataka-based groups in Qatar.

The Konkani Speaking Community is a vibrant group that caters to Konkani Speaking Roman Catholic people from the Konkan zone of India, including Maharashtra, Goa, Karwar, and Mangaluru. The KSC organizes religious and cultural events for the community and provides services to parishioners in need in Doha, Qatar.

Under the leadership of Aloysius D’Souza and Fr Nelson Lobo, the KSC has planned several community events to bring all Konkani speaking people together. These events include family picnics, celebrations of feasts such as St Joseph Vaz, St Padre Pio, Monti Fest, St. Francis Xavier, Christmas, and Easter. Additionally, they aim to form a Konkani Charismatic prayer group and hold prayer meetings to pray for the intentions of people in Qatar and around the world.

The recent celebration of the feast of Saint Francis Xavier brought together Konkani speaking Goans and Mangalureans in Qatar for a grand event. The festivities included a mesmerizing choir performance by the New Shephard Choir Qatar and a procession with the statue of St Francis Xavier.

The newly elected officials of the Konkani Speaking Community are Fr. Nelson Lobo as the Spiritual Director, Aloysius Dsouza as President, Rosario Dcunha as Vice President & Treasurer, Ms. Jovita Pereira as General Secretary, Ms. Meena Mascarenhas as Cultural Secretary, and several other committee members.

Overall, the Konkani Speaking Community in Doha, Qatar is set to continue its tradition of serving the community and fostering a sense of unity among its members under the leadership of Aloysius D’Souza.
