Pope Francis Signs Decree for Canonization of Blessed Marie-Léonie Paradis and Recognizes Martyrdom of Father Michal Rapacz

Pope Francis Clears the Way for Canonization of Canada-born Blessed Marie-Léonie Paradis

In a significant announcement, Pope Francis signed a decree paving the way for the canonization of Canada-born Blessed Marie-Léonie Paradis, the founder of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family. This news comes after the pope recognized a miracle attributed to Blessed Paradis, involving the healing of a newborn baby girl in 1986.

The miraculous healing of the baby girl, who suffered from severe health complications at birth, was deemed as a sign of Blessed Paradis’ intercession. Today, the young woman is a language teacher, a testament to the power of faith and prayer.

Born Virginie Alodie Paradis in Quebec in 1840, Blessed Marie-Léonie Paradis dedicated her life to serving others. She founded the Little Sisters of the Holy Family in 1880, with a mission to support educational work and evangelization. Today, the sisters continue her legacy, working in over 200 institutions across several countries.

In addition to Blessed Paradis, Pope Francis also recognized the martyrdom of Polish Father Michal Rapacz, who was killed in 1946 during the communist government’s anti-religious campaign. Father Rapacz can now be beatified, joining the ranks of those honored for their sacrifice in the name of faith.

The pope also approved decrees regarding the heroic virtues of Bishop Cyrille Jean Zohrabian, Father Sebastián Gili Vives, Capuchin Father Gianfranco Chiti, and Italian Sister Maddalena Volpato. These individuals, through their dedication and service, exemplified the values of compassion, faith, and selflessness.

The announcement of these decrees marks a significant moment for the Catholic Church, honoring individuals who have made a profound impact through their lives of devotion and service. The upcoming canonization of Blessed Marie-Léonie Paradis is a cause for celebration and reflection, highlighting the enduring legacy of faith and compassion.
