Official Galleon Named after Cebuano Bishop to Lead Fiesta Señor 2020 Fluvial Procession

The upcoming Fiesta Señor in Cebu City is set to be even more special next year, as a 22-year-old vessel named after a Cebuano bishop being groomed for sainthood will serve as the official galleon of the Holy Child during the festivities.

The LCT Teofilo Camomot, owned by Mandaue Shipping and Lighterage Corp. (MSLC), has been chosen as the official galleon for the fluvial procession by organizers of Fiesta Señor 2020. Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, OSA, head Secretariat for the event, confirmed the decision to SunStar Cebu.

MSLC, owned by businessman Hector Wong, was selected after careful consideration of the vessel’s sea worthiness and capacity to accommodate religious community members, pilgrims, and other fluvial guests.

Raphael Wong, son of Hector Wong, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a significant event. “The vessel is named in honor of the Servant of God, Archbishop Teofilo Camomot. We hope that by using this vessel during the fluvial procession, people will get to know him more as we continue to pray for his beatification,” Raphael said.

The LCT Teofilo Camomot, built in 1997, has a gross tonnage of 276.56 tons. This marks a change from the past 37 years, where the family of Ernesto Ouano Sr. prepared the galleon for the seaborne parade, which used to start at Ouano Wharf in Mandaue City. Last year, the Philippine Navy boat carried the images in the seaborne procession, which began at Naval Forces Central in Lapu-Lapu City.

With the rich history and significance of the LCT Teofilo Camomot, next year’s Fiesta Señor promises to be a memorable and meaningful celebration for all those involved.
