University of San Diego Partners with Catholic Charities USA to Offer Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Management

The University of San Diego and Catholic Charities USA Partner to Offer Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Management

The University of San Diego (USD) is excited to announce a new partnership with Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) to provide a professional certificate in nonprofit executive management. This collaboration aims to enhance the business skills of 170 Catholic Charities CEOs from across the United States.

The initiative began when CCUSA approached Interim Dean Joi Spencer at the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES). After a competitive bidding process, the Department of Leadership Studies at USD was selected to deliver the training program.

Funded by a private donor to CCUSA, the program is designed to equip executives with the necessary tools to strengthen their organizations’ impact on the community. As the largest human services provider in the U.S. outside of the federal government, CCUSA recognizes the importance of investing in the professional development of its leaders.

The professional certificate program will kick off in October 2022 with a pilot cohort of 25 executives. Participants will engage in three online modules focusing on leading contemporary nonprofits, financial leadership, and resource development. The program will culminate in a four-day in-person leadership seminar at USD in January 2023.

The program aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of nonprofit management, practical business tools, and a valuable network of colleagues. Program director Laura Deitrick expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting the alignment of missions between USD and CCUSA.

“We are thrilled to grow this partnership with CCUSA,” said Deitrick. “The Department of Leadership Studies has been educating nonprofit leaders for 20 years, and we see this as an opportunity to amplify our reach with a partner whose mission so closely aligns with that of USD.”

The collaboration between USD and CCUSA represents a significant step towards empowering nonprofit leaders to drive positive change in their communities. Stay tuned for updates on the impact of this innovative program.
